Texas Appeals Court Reverses Amputee's $43.5M Jury Verdict |

A Texas appeals court on Thursday held that a construction superintendent whose leg was amputated after being crushed in a crane accident cannot recover the $43.5 million verdict a jury rendered in his favor in May 2015 because the Texas Workers' Compensation Act precludes the recovery of common-law damages. A three-judge 14th Court of Appeals panel rendered a take-nothing judgment for amputee Tyler Lee, who was general contractor Skanska USA Building Inc.'s superintendent.

Judge Greenlights Some BP Investor Holder Claims In MDL |

A Texas federal judge has allowed a small number of institutional investors to move forward in their efforts to recover an expanded scope of damages under English common law in multidistrict litigation against BP Plc related to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, according to an order unsealed Thursday. U.S. District Judge Keith Ellison ruled on June 30 that the New York City Employees' Retirement System, Mondrian Global Equity Fund LP and some of the other institutional investors suing BP can proceed with their “holder claims”.

Honda Recalling 1.5M Accord Cars to Prevent Potential Engine Fires |

Honda is recalling 1.5 million recent Accord models globally to prevent engine fires after discovering a defect with the vehicle's battery system. The automaker said it had linked four reports of engine fires to the defect. The recall covers 1.15 million cars in the U.S. from the 2013 through 2016 model-year.

Air Bag, Brake Defects Trigger Fiat Chrysler Recalls of 1.3M Vehicles |

Fiat Chrysler has issued a pair of recalls affecting more than 1.3 million vehicles worldwide: one to fix defective air bags and another to repair anti-lock brakes. In the air bag recall, the company is said certain crossover vehicles are prone to "inadvertent deployment of the driver-side front air bag." The company identified five potentially related minor accidents, but no injuries. The recall affects 770,853 vehicles around the world, including certain 2011-2015 Dodge Journeys sold in the U.S., Canada and Mexico and certain 2011-2015 Fiat Freemont crossovers sold outside North America.
