Parkland Students File Suit Over Mass Shooting

A number of students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, have filed a lawsuit alleging incompetence, poor training, and inaction were to blame for deaths and injuries during a mass shooting on Valentine's Day. The lawsuit was filed by 15 current or former students of the school who allege they suffered â??at least, psychological injury and traumaâ?? during the shooting. The lawsuit was filed this week and seeks unspecified damages. The shooter faces a possible death penalty in the 17 first-degree murder counts and has also been charged with attempted murder in the shootings of the 17 who survived.

Close to $4.7B Awarded in Talc Lawsuit

A St. Louis jury on Thursday awarded nearly $4.7 billion in total damages to 22 women and their families after they claimed asbestos in Johnson & Johnson talcum powder contributed to their ovarian cancer in the first case against the company that focused on asbestos in the powder. The jury announced the $4.14 billion award in punitive damages shortly after awarding $550 million in compensatory damages after a six-week trial in St. Louis Circuit Court.

Sutherland Springs Suvivors File Lawsuit

A family that survived the Sutherland Springs church massacre filed a lawsuit against the Department of Defense and the United States Air Force, accusing the federal agencies of negligence. Margarette Vidal and her children Monica Shabbir, Robert Vidal, and Ramiro Vidal Jr. are plaintiffs in the formal complaint against the federal agencies filed on Wednesday.

Texas Nursing Assistant Attacked Elderly Patient, Leading to His Death, Says Family's Lawsuit

A hospital in Waco, Texas is facing a wrongful death lawsuit by the family of a patient who died after being attacked by a nursing assistant. The lawsuit was filed by the family of the 79-year-old man and alleges that his death was hastened by the attack in July 2016. The lawsuit contends that the nursing assistant struck the patient on the head, neck and face while attempting to calm him during â??an episode of delirium and agitation.â?? The complaint was filed late last week against Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center and former nursing assistant Felecia Elaine Thompson.
