SCOTUS Ruling Could Impact Cases of Fired LGBT Faculty at Religious Schools

The U.S. Supreme Court's recent ruling that religious schools are exempt from most employment discrimination claims could affect the cases of educators fired from Indiana's Roncalli High School. In the case of California Catholic schools and the teachers they fired, the Supreme Court ruled that religious employers are given autonomy over their workers that is not available to other employers. The ruling could be detrimental to two former guidance counselors at Roncalli High School and a Cathedral High School teacher who filed suit after they were fired over their same-sex marriages.

AIG Has Duty to Cover Pandemic Losses, Alleges Circus Circus Casino

AIG Specialty Insurance Co. is facing a lawsuit alleging it wrongfully denied coverage for Circus Circus Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. According to the complaint, AIG wrongfully declined to cover the company's losses from the COVID-19 pandemic. The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court of Nevada, alleges breach of contract and seeks a declaration that AIG has a duty to cover pandemic losses.

Pilgrim's Pride Facing Fines and Lawsuit Over Worker's Death

Chicken producer Pilgrim's Pride has been fined $26,988 for hazards found after an Alabama worker died in an accident in January. Following the man's death, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration found two serious violations at the Guntersville plant. A lawsuit filed on behalf of the man's children alleges that a supervisor removed a safety device before the fall and that negligence by Pilgrim's Pride led to the accident.
