Yelp Does Not Have to Remove Defamatory Review, Says California High Court |

The California Supreme Court has ruled that Yelp Inc. does not have to take down negative reviews of businesses. The recent 4-3 ruling determined that Yelp cannot be forced to take down a review that was found to be defamatory by a lower court. The lawsuit was filed by a San Francisco lawyer seeking to have a negative review from a client removed. A San Francisco Superior Court judge ruled that the client's review was defamatory, however, the state Supreme Court ruled Yelp is protected by the federal Communications Decency Act. Toyota Dismissed From Lawsuit Seeking Damages for Rat-Chewed Car Wires |

A federal judge in California has dismissed a lawsuit against Toyota seeking to force the carmaker to cover damage from rodents chewing through insulation for engine wiring. "Over the course of litigation, weâ??ve discovered the problem of rodents eating through soy-covered wiring is frequent and widespread, impacting tens of thousands of drivers nationwide," said an attorney for the plaintiff. He says they are disappointed by the ruling and are weighing legal options to recoup damages for car owners. The lawsuit was dismissed without leave to amend and cannot be refiled. Migrant Child Returned to Mother Unbathed and Carrying Lice, Says Lawsuit |

A lawsuit alleges that a migrant child was returned to his mother "full of dirt and lice" after being detained by the Trump administration. The claim is part of a lawsuit filed by 17 states and the District of Columbia against the administration over the immigration policy separating families. The mother named in the lawsuit says her 14-month-old son was returned to her unclean, appearing to not have been bathed in the 85-day separation. Swinomish Indian Tribe Files Opioid Lawsuit |

The Swinomish Indian Tribal Community in the state of Washington has filed a lawsuit against a number of large pharmaceutical companies. The complaint was filed last week in U.S. District Court in Seattle and alleges false and deceptive marketing strategies by the makers of opioid drugs, contributing to the nationwide epidemic. As alleged in the lawsuit, the defendants' practices "fueled the opioid epidemic and resulted in deaths and devastation to Swinomish families." Mother Files Suit After Teacher Throws Trash Can at Autistic Boy |

The Austin Independent School District in Texas is facing a lawsuit by the mother of a special needs student who was allegedly injured when a teacher's aide threw a trash can at him. According to the mother, she â??repeatedly expressed her concern with AISD staff membersâ?? prior to the violent incident. She has filed suit against the school district and the teacher's aide for violations of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Class Action Alleges NutriBullet Blender Can Explode During Use |

A new lawsuit has been filed alleging that NutriBullet blenders can explode, causing injuries to users. The class-action lawsuit filed against Capital Brands alleges violations of federal and state consumer protection laws along with warranty laws. The new lawsuit was filed by a woman from South Carolina who suffered second-degree burns on her chest and first degree burns on her arms when her NutriBullet exploded. Mother of Overdosed Patient Files Lawsuit Against Opioid-Prescribing Clinic |

A West Virginia woman whose son died from a drug overdose has filed a lawsuit against the clinic which provided the man with the drugs. The lawsuit alleges that doctors at the HOPE Clinic fatally over-prescribed opioid drugs to patients, including the plaintiff's son. The lawsuit alleges that the clinic filled opioid prescriptions despite evidence of suspicious prescription activity in violation of the West Virginia Medical Professional Liability Act.
