Congressional Study Faults Highway Agency Over Testing of Guardrails

A report by the Government Accountability Office accused federal highway officials of poor oversight of the safety testing of guardrails and other roadside equipment, in a report based on a yearlong investigation. Lawsuits say the guardrails were to blame for at least five deaths, and many more injuries, in at least 14 accidents nationwide. The guardrails, known as ET-Plus, are made by Trinity Industries.

Harsh Sanctions for Theranos Founder

Theranos said in a statement issued late Thursday that the certificate for its lab in Newark, Calif., had been revoked, its approval to receive Medicare and Medicaid payments "cancelled," and that it would have to pay an unspecified fine. In addition, chief executive Elizabeth Holmes, the company's founder, will be banned from owning, operating or directing a lab for at least two years.

Paul Hornung Sues the Helmet Maker Riddell Over Concussions

Paul Hornung, the Hall of Fame running back with the Green Bay Packers, has sued Riddell, asserting that the company knew of the dangers of brain trauma more than 50 years ago but failed to warn him and other players that their helmets would do nothing to prevent concussions.

NHTSA Probes 2nd Possible Self-Driving Tesla Crash

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Wednesday said that it is investigating a recent rollover crash of a Tesla Model X in Pennsylvania equipped with its Autopilot system, shortly after it launched a probe of the company's automated driving system in the wake of a fatal accident involving another Tesla model.
