American Airlines Faces Lawsuit Over Groping of 13-Year-Old

A $10 million lawsuit has been filed against American Airlines and a man accused of groping an unaccompanied 13-year-old girl on a flight. The lawsuit was filed by the family of the young girl who alleges she was inappropriately touched by the 26-year-old man during a flight from Dallas to Portland on June 15. Court records show that the man was seen drinking four alcoholic drinks before getting on the plane. A flight attendant discovered the man touching the girl during the flight and he was arrested by Port of Portland officers and FBI agents.

Former Fox News Host Files Sexual Harassment Lawsuit

Former Fox News Channel host Gretchen Carlson has filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against the network's chairman and CEO, Roger Ailes. The TV host alleges in the lawsuit that she was fired after she "refused to sleep" with Ailes and "reported disparaging treatment in the newsroom." Carlson was best known for co-hosting 'Fox & Friends' and left the network after her contract ended on June 23. The plaintiff alleges in her lawsuit that Ailes "unlawfully retaliated against Carlson and sabotaged her career because she refused his sexual advances and complained about severe and pervasive sexual harassment."

Family of Man Killed in Tesla Autopilot Crash May Be Able to File Suit

Legal experts say that the family of a Tesla driver who died while using his car's autopilot feature "may have grounds to sue." The man's recent death occurred when the autopilot feature failed to detect a tractor-trailer and collided with the vehicle. The man's family may have grounds to filed suit against Tesla over the recent fatal crash. A DVD player was discovered in the car, but it is unclear if the man was using it at the time of the crash. The incident is still under investigation by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

DuPont acted with malice by dumping a toxic chemical from its West Virginia plant into the Ohio River, a federal jury said Wednesday afternoon in awarding $5.1 million in compensatory damages to a man who developed cancer. The jury will meet Thursday to begin deciding the amount of punitive damages to be handed out to the plaintiff, David Freeman, 56, of Washington County, Ohio.

U.S. Judge Cuts $500M Verdict Over J&J Hip Implants

U.S. District Judge Ed Kinkeade in the Northern District of Texas slashed a $500 million verdict against Johnson & Johnson and its DePuy unit over allegedly defective metal-on-metal Pinnacle hip implants to approximately $151 million. The judge said he was compelled to reduce the verdict under a Texas state law limiting punitive damages according to a specific formula.

Women File Suit Over Allegedly Discriminatory Disability Benefits

A lawsuit filed in the state of California alleges that women on disability receive less money than their male counterparts. The lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court and alleges that women receive less in disability due to systemic discrimination against women. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of several women who were injured on the job and the 700,000-member Service Employees International Union in California. The lawsuit is seeking class action status.

Brooklyn Man Files Suit After Leg Amputation

A man from Brooklyn has filed a medical malpractice lawsuit after an incident at a hospital caused him to lose his leg. The lawsuit contends that the 46-year-old man was not treated at the hospital for 13 hours due to miscommunication and red tape, which resulted in his leg being amputated above the knee. The lawsuit alleges that he "joined a series of patients victimized and disabled by the medical malpractice and mismanagement plaguing Coney Island Hospital." The lawsuit seeks $24 million in compensation.
