Amtrak Faces First Lawsuits Over December Derailment

Amtrak is facing the first lawsuits over a train derailment that took place on Dec. 18. The lawsuits were filed by a train conductor, who was operating the train at the time of the crash and one passenger. The crash resulted in the deaths of three people and injuries to 80 others. One of the lawsuits was filed in King County Superior Court in Seattle and the other lawsuit was filed Pierce County Superior Court. Neither of the lawsuits seeks a specific dollar amount.

Amended Lawsuit Against Google Alleges Women Make Less Money

Google is facing a new version of a lawsuit alleging that it pays its female employees less than their male counterparts. The version of the lawsuit was refiled after a judge threw out a previous version of the case. The amended complaint states that the group of women affected by the pay gap includes engineers, program managers, salespeople and at least one preschool teacher. Google is currently under investigation by the U.S. Department of Labor, which has accused the company of 'extreme' pay discrimination against women.

Washington and Monsanto Named in Lawsuit Over Toxic Chemicals at School

The state of Washington, the Monroe School District and Monsanto are facing a lawsuit over chemicals found in classrooms. The lawsuit was filed by teachers and families who say they have been adversely affected by the toxic chemicals. The complaint was filed in King County Superior Court and alleges that the school district failed to take action to remove the harmful chemicals, despite 100 people reporting health issues due to the buildings over the years.

Motel 6 Sued For Sharing Guest Information with ICE

A lawsuit has been filed against Motel 6 alleging the motel chain voluntarily provided the private information of thousands of guests to federal immigration authorities. The lawsuit was filed on Wednesday by the Washington attorney general and contends that Motel 6 violated the rights of its tenants. The company has admitted that at least six locations in the Seattle-area shared personal information on its guests with ICE. The information shared led to the arrests of 20 people between February and August of last year.

Another Sutherland Springs Family Files Claim Against Air Force

Another victim of the Sutherland Springs church shooting has filed a claim against the U.S. Air Force and a separate claim against the Department of Defense for failing to report the gunman's convictions to an FBI national database. Margarette Vidal was shot twice, in the knee and next to her spine, when Devin Kelley killed 26 people at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs and injured at least 20 more on Nov. 5. She's been through several surgeries since then and has not yet been released from care, her attorney Jamal Alsaffar said, alternating between a surgical hospital and a rehabilitation hospital.

Researchers Discover Two Major Flaws in the World's Computers

Computer security experts have discovered two major security flaws in the microprocessors inside nearly all of the world's computers. The two problems, called Meltdown and Spectre, could allow hackers to steal the entire memory contents of computers, including mobile devices, personal computers and servers running in so-called cloud computer networks.
