County: Battling the Jury Duty Problem |
|
In Harris
County 22 percent of people called in 2019 appeared for jury service,
according to data from the district clerkâ??s office. Experts say, the data
highlight a wider issue that translates to limited diversity on juries that
possibly deprives criminal and civil defendants of their right to fair
trial.

Say Royal Caribbean 'Demonstrably Lied' About Toddler's Fatal Fall |
|
Attorneys
for the parents of a toddler who died in Puerto Rico after falling from a
cruise ship say Royal Caribbean Cruises is lying about the events surrounding
the child's death. The lawsuit alleges an unexpectedly open windowpane without
any cautionary signs played a crucial role in an 18-month-oldâ??s death.
According to Royal Caribbean, the grandfather was aware the window was open
when he held the child up to it. The family says the defendants "demonstrably
lied" about the grandfather's knowledge. Puerto Rico prosecutors charged the
grandfather with negligent homicide.
