Federal Investigators: Texans Still Face Risk of West-Like blast

Nineteen facilities statewide that store five tons or more of fertilizer-grade ammonium nitrate are within a half-mile of a school, hospital or nursing home, according to the report by the staff of the U.S. Chemical Safety Board, which investigates industrial accidents; it did not identify the sites. The board concluded that there have been only limited improvements in the rules governing storage of the fertilizer since the disaster in West. "The risk to the public from a catastrophic incident exists through the state of Texas," the report said.

Judge Sanctions Dallas Lawyer Over Push Poll
State District Judge Ruben Reyes in Lubbock declared that a Dallas trial lawyer committed misconduct when he used so-called push polling to improperly influence potential jurors in a West Texas wrongful death and products liability case.

Sovereign Immunity: Lawyers Wary of Taking on Flint Water Scandal

Federal and state governments and employees engaged in their official duties are shielded from most private lawsuits by a legal doctrine known as sovereign immunity.While cities in the U.S. are not technically considered to have sovereign status, they are similarly protected by state and federal laws. As of Friday, only a few lawsuits had been filed in the wake of the crisis that began when the city began in April 2014 to use river water, which was more corrosive than its previous supply source and caused lead to leach from aging pipes into the water that people drank and washed in.

$262K Settlement for Owner of Dog Killed by Police

According to a spokesperson for Commerce City, CO, the city has settled with the owner of a dog who was killed by a police officer. The Animal Law Center says the $262,000 settlement is one of the largest of its kind.
