Latest Chemical Plant Explosion Adds to String of Accidents

Saturday's deadly explosion at a Pasadena plant was at least the 10th such incident in the greater Houston region since the DuPont tragedy 14 months ago. In that time, at least two people have been killed and 18 injured amid explosions, fires and chemical leaks from Conroe down to the booming petrochemical complexes in southern Brazoria County. Few details emerged Monday about the latest in the string of accidents: a blast at PeroxyChem that killed one worker and sent three to the hospital.

A woman wrongly convicted of starting a fire that killed her 3-year-old son has filed a lawsuit alleging that investigators in Decatur County, Indiana falsified evidence in the case. The lawsuit, filed in 2014 in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, accuses authorities of hiding and fabricating evidence that resulted in the plaintiff's murder conviction. The woman was in prison for 16 years before her conviction was overturned. She was serving a 60-year sentence for the fire and the death of her son.

A $13 million lawsuit has been filed by the family of a man who fell to his death at the University of Portland. The 55-year-old man accidentally plummeted to his death inside the Chiles Center Arena and his family has filed suit against the university. The man was using a university-owned Genie Personal Lift machine, when it tipped over, causing him to fall and strike his head on the gym floor. The man died in hospice care three months after the incident. The lawsuit was recently filed by the man's family in Multnomah County Circuit Court.
