Class Action

Appeals Court Upholds Multi-Million Verdict for Wal-Mart Truck Drivers

A multi-million-dollar verdict for about 700 Wal-Mart truck drivers has been upheld by the U.S Court of Appeals for the Ninth District in San Francisco. The class action lawsuit, filed nearly a decade ago, alleged Wal-Mart failed to pay drivers for specific parts of their job. Following a 16-day trial in 2016, the truck drivers were awarded $54 million by a San Francisco jury. The appeals court issued a decision on Monday that the district court "correctly concluded that, under California law, time drivers spent on layovers was compensable if Wal-Mart exercised control over the drivers during those breaks."
