Coca-Cola, Procter & Gamble, Others Face Lawsuit Over Plastic Contamination in California

On Wednesday, an environmental group filed suit against some of the world's biggest food, beverage, and consumer goods companies over plastic contamination in California waters. Named as defendants are Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Nestle USA, Procter & Gamble, and six other companies. The lawsuit filed in San Mateo County Superior Court alleges the companies' plastic packaging contaminates the stateâ??s oceans, rivers, and streams. The complaint was filed by the Earth Island Institute and asks for unspecified damages.

Teen Who Suffered Broken Neck in Amtrak Derailment Files Suit

A teenage boy who suffered a broken neck during a train derailment in Washington has filed a lawsuit against Amtrak. The train derailed while traveling at a speed of 80 miles per hour around a curve on the Point Defiance Bypass. The lawsuit alleges the transportation system was rushed into service before it was ready. Also named as defendants in the complaint are Sound Transit and the Washington State Department of Transportation.
