Family Sues Atmos Over Dec. Explosion | | A North Richland Hills family has sued utility provider Atmos Energy over a December natural gas explosion that destroyed their home and sent an 8-year-old girl to Parkland Memorial Hospital with second-degree burns covering 40 percent of her body. The suit maintains that “an investigation revealed the explosion and fire were caused by combustible natural gas which originated from a defective weld/fusion of an underground polyethylene pipe owned, operated and maintained” by the natural gas provider. It demands Atmos pay all of Maya’s medical bills — both those already incurred any future bills related to her injures suffered in the explosion. The suit also says the rest of the family should be compensated for their “physical and psychological injuries,” as well as the extensive damage caused to the house and their property. Video evidence of the incident shows several mall security guards on top of the man while he tells them he cannot breathe. The lawsuit names the guards, their employer, and the mall owner as defendants. Eric D. Lawrence, Detroit Free Press 02/26/2014 | Read Article: Detroit Free Press |
