Follow us on Twitter @ttla_ #ttla2014pharma | Semi-Truck Driver Sued For Damages After Accident | | An Illinois state trooper who was severely injured in a car accident caused by a semi-truck driver has filed a lawsuit against the driver and the company that employed him. The accident occurred when the semitrailer truck crashed into emergency vehicles on the side of the road who had stopped to assist a broken-down vehicle. A Tollway worker was killed in the accident and the state trooper was severely injured, remaining in serious condition in an intensive care unit. The driver of the semi-truck had been driving for 36 hours after falsifying his driving logs. The lawsuit, filed by the state trooper and his wife, seeks damages for pain, suffering, disability and disfigurement, as well as economic damages. According to the lawsuit, the stores marketed their "Simple Truth" premium-priced store brand of chicken as "cage free" and "raised in a humane environment," when in fact the chicken farm used for the brand followed typical industry practices "such as electrically stunning birds prior to slaughter." The lawsuit was filed on Tuesday in Superior Court of California in Los Angeles County and seeks class-action status. P.J. Huffstutter, Chicago Tribune 02/12/2014 | Read Article: Chicago Tribune | Student Recorded in Locker Room Files Lawsuit | | A former Estacada, Ore. high school student has filed a lawsuit over an incident in which fellow students recorded a video of her changing clothes in a locker room and posted it online. The lawsuit was filed against the classmates, their parents and the school district. The plaintiff alleges that after informing her P.E. instructor that she was being recorded while in the locker room, the teacher only made the students put down their phones and then went back into her office. Shortly after, the students began recording her again and "also slammed the plaintiff's head into a locker." The video was then uploaded to the internet. The lawsuit seeks $850,000 in damages. Aimee Green, The Oregonian 02/11/2014 | Read Article: The Oregonian | Lawsuit Filed Over School Bus Molestation | | The mother of a New Jersey boy has filed a lawsuit alleging that her son was repeatedly molested while on a school bus. According to the lawsuit, the sixth-grade boy was inappropriately touched by another student while riding the bus over the course of several months. The plaintiff claims that her son has suffered severe emotional scarring as a result of the abuse and accuses school officials of negligence in not preventing the molestation. The lawsuit seeks unspecified compensatory damages. James Kleimann, NJ.com 02/12/2014 | Read Article: NJ.com | Toyota Priuses Recalled Due to Faulty Programming | | Toyota Motors has issued a recall on all of the newest models of their Prius cars due to a programming error that could potentially cause their gas-electric hybrid systems to shut down. The recall affects the 1.9 million newest-generation Prius vehicles, which went on sale in 2009. Half of the vehicles are in Japan, with about 710,000 in North America and 130,000 in Europe. The company claims that they have not heard reports of any accidents related to the faulty programming system. GM said it knows of at least 22 accidents involving the ignition switches. James R. Healey, USA Today 02/13/2014 | Read Article: USA Today | FDA Investigating Illnesses After Uncle Ben's Rice Recalled | | The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is investigating the illnesses of children in three states in recent months that have been linked to Uncle Ben's infused rice served in schools. The cluster of illnesses have affected children in Texas, Illinois and North Dakota. At three schools in Katy, Texas, 34 students and four teachers experienced skin reactions, burning, headaches and nausea last week after eating Uncle Ben's "Mexican flavor" infused rice.
