A Mississippi doctor has been accused in a lawsuit of triggering a woman's addition to opioid drugs. According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff's doctor began prescribing her hydrocodone and phentermine in May 2016. A few months later, the same doctor also began prescribing her oxycodone without verifying through the Prescription Monitoring Service website that she had already been prescribed hydrocodone by another physician that same month. The lawsuit states that the doctor should have known that prescribing the two drugs along with oxycodone was a dangerous combination.

The city of Tacoma, Washington, is facing two wrongful death lawsuits over a fatal accident at a railroad crossing. The lawsuits were filed by the families of two victims who were killed about a year apart at the crossing. Both of the individuals, a 31-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, were struck by Amtrak trains just after a freight train had passed in the opposite direction. The complaints, filed in Pierce County Superior Court early this month, seek unspecified damages for the families of the victims.
