Whistleblower Lawsuit Says Tamiflu Makers Defrauded U.S. Government

A whistleblower lawsuit alleges drug company Hoffmann-La Roche defrauded the U.S. federal and state governments by falsely claiming its influenza medicine Tamiflu was effective at containing potential pandemics. The recently unsealed lawsuit states the scheme involved claims that Tamiflu reduces complications, severity, hospitalizations, mortality and transmission of influenza. The complaint was filed under the False Claims Act by a physician and public health researcher who studied drugs like Tamiflu for over two decades.

FEMA Seeks $3.9 Billion from PG&E for California Wildfires

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is seeking $3.9 billion from California utility giant Pacific Gas & Electric for wildfires sparked over the last several years. A FEMA spokesperson denied reports that it would seek compensation from the $13.5 billion settlement paid by PF&E to fire victims. The case involves the 2015 Butte Fire, the 2017 wildfires in Wine Country, and the 2018 Camp Fire, all of which were determined to have been caused by PG&E.

$6.3M Infants' Tylenol Settlement

Parents who bought Infants' Tylenol in the past six years could get money back from a $6.3 million lawsuit settlement with Johnson & Johnson. The medicine's packaging, which features a picture of a mother holding her baby and a label that says "infants," misleads consumers into thinking Infants' Tylenol is specially formulated for infants, the class-action lawsuit argued. In reality, the bottle contains the same concentration of liquid acetaminophen as Children's Tylenol, but often at a higher price, according to the lawsuit.
