Property Damage From Plane Crash Leads to Lawsuit

An Illinois woman has filed a lawsuit over a 2011 plane crash on her property, which caused at least $50,000 in property damage. In November 2011, a medical plane carrying three passengers ran out of fuel and crashed onto the plaintiff's property, killing everyone on board. The lawsuit names the medical air transport company and the company they hired to clean up the debris. According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff's home suffered damage to the roof, foundation and structure, as well as the underground drainage system and trees. The suit seeks a jury trial and "for damages related to Meister's emotional distress and property damage."

First Lawsuit Filed Over D.C. Navy Yard Shooting

The family of one of the victims of the recent Washington, D.C. Navy Yard shooting has filed a lawsuit against two federal government agencies and two government contractors. According to the lawsuit, the defendants "failed to respond appropriately to the myriad signs of mental health issues the shooter exhibited in the months and years before the massacre." The lawsuit names the Navy, the Department of Veterans Affairs and two government contractors as defendants. Twelve people were killed in the shooting.

Woman Files Lawsuit Over Home Break-In

A North Dakota woman has filed a lawsuit against a man who is accused of breaking into her home six years ago. In his search for abandoned farmsteads, the defendant broke into the plaintiff's home, thinking it was empty. The lawsuit alleges that the defendant's actions caused the plaintiff emotional distress and seeks $700,000 in damages from the man accused of breaking into the plaintiff's home as well as several companies he has been affiliated with since the 2007 break-in.
