Off-Duty Police Officer Accused of Excessive Force

A California man filed a lawsuit on Tuesday accusing an off-duty Concord police officer of excessive force. The 64-year-old plaintiff claims that, in an act of road rage, the off-duty officer intentionally ran into his car, broke his arm and bruised his ribs. The incident happened during heavy traffic when the officer and the plaintiff were trying to pass each other. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages and names the city of Concord, the police chief and the police officer as defendants.

Family of Soldier Killed in Helicopter Crash Settles Suit

The family of a National Guard soldier who died in a helicopter crash in Iraq has reached a settlement with the government contractor and other companies that supplied parts for the helicopter. The terms of the settlement have not been released and are still awaiting the approval of a judge. The family of the Tennessee National Guard soldier filed the lawsuit after the helicopter crash killed him and a chief warrant officer in 2010.

Wrongful Death Suit over Faulty Fire Alarm

An Alabama woman has filed a wrongful death lawsuit after her husband's death in an apartment fire due to a faulty fire alarm. The apartment complex had replaced an existing fire alarm, which did not work, with another faulty alarm. The plaintiff's husband was killed in the July fire, which investigators determined was caused by cooking left unattended. The lawsuit names the apartment complex and the fire alarm manufacturer as defendants.
