Harveyâ??s Flooding Spurs Concern About Houstonâ??s Toxic Waste Sites |
Harris County, home to Houston, has at least a dozen federal Superfund sites, more than any county in Texas. On top of that, the state lists several other highly toxic sites managed by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. Up to 30 percent of the county is under water. Scientists in the area are deeply worried about toxins leaking into the water during an unprecedented rainfall and flooding from Hurricane Harvey that caused dams to spill over for the first time in history.

Wells Fargo Overcharged Customers Fees by Blaming False Delays |
A lawsuit has been filed against Wells Fargo & Co., alleging that the bank overcharged its customers to lock in interest rates when their mortgage applications were delayed. The lawsuit was filed on Monday in San Francisco federal court and alleges that the bank instructed its employees to blame delays on homeowners. As stated in the lawsuit, bankers falsely told homeowners that delays were due to missing paperwork, so that the customers would be stuck with extra fees. The lawsuit comes after a separate scandal that came to light last year showing that the bank opened accounts for customers without their authorization in order to boost sales figures.

California's Knott's Berry Farm Facing Lawsuit Over Boy's Injury |
A lawsuit has been filed by the family of a young boy who was injured while on a ride at California's Knottâ??s Berry Farm amusement park. The lawsuit filed in California in Orange County Superior Court by the Illinois family of the 6-year-old boy who suffered a fractured eye socket on the park's log ride. The boy was riding the Timber Mountain Log Ride with his father last year when his face was smashed into the back of the seat in front of him, causing him to fracture his eye socket, says the lawsuit. The family alleges that the park failed to maintain proper water levels on the ride, which caused â??the logs to decelerate in a dangerous manner.â?? There have been at least 10 other riders injured on the log ride in similar circumstances from 2000 to 2014, the complaint states.

This Miracle Weed Killer Was Supposed to Save Farms |
The dicamba system, approved for use for the first time this spring, was supposed to break the cycle and guarantee weed control in soybeans and cotton. The herbicide â?? used in combination with a genetically modified dicamba-resistant soybean â?? promises better control of unwanted plants such as pigweed, which has become resistant to common weed killers. The problem, farmers and weed scientists say, is that dicamba has drifted from the fields where it was sprayed, damaging millions of acres of unprotected soybeans and other crops in what some are calling a man-made disaster. Critics say that the herbicide was approved by federal officials without enough data, particularly on the critical question of whether it could drift off target.
