AAA Study: Deaths From Cars Running Red Lights at 10-Year High

Deaths from drivers running red lights reached a 10-year high in 2017, according to the study by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. The number of people killed when someone ran through a light reached 939 in 2017, the last full year numbers were available.

Police have long grappled with how best to respond to suspects fleeing in cars. Over the past three years, U.S. officers shot and killed an average of 162 people annually in their vehicles, or who had just exited following a chase, according to a Washington Post database that tracks deadly police shootings. Thirty-six of the fatalities during that period were in Texas.

A woman says she was groped and sexually harassed on an American Airlines flight to DFW International Airport after flight attendants over-served alcohol to the man next to her, according to a lawsuit recently moved to U.S. District Court in the Northern District of Texas.

Lawsuit Filed Against Spitzer Industries that Operated Baytown Industrial Plant Where Two Workers Died

Isidro Mendoza Cabrera earlier this year was working the night shift at a Baytown industrial facility when a large piece of metal equipmentfell from a crane. Cabrera pushed a co-worker out of the way before he was crushed. He and another worker, Eric Rojas, were killed in the accident, authorities have said. Attorneys on Monday filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the company that operates the facility, Spitzer Industries, along with its Curtis Kelly division. The company Cabrera worked for, G&C Steel Fabricators, were also named as defendants.

Class Status Granted for Illinois Lawsuit Over Facebook's Facial Scanning Technology

Facebook has been hit with a lawsuit over its use of facial scanning technology. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals held that the lawsuit filed against the social media giant by a group of Illinois residents could proceed as a class action suit. The court issued a unanimous ruling that the mere collection of an individualâ??s biometric data was a sufficient actual or threatened injury under the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act ("BIPA").

Ciry of Milwaukee: Stop Vaping Immediately

The city of Milwaukee issued a health alert Wednesday urging people to stop vaping immediately amid an outbreak of lung disease doctors suspect is linked to e-cigarettes. There are 16 confirmed cases in cases in Wisconsin, with 15 other cases under investigation, state health officials said. The city urged people to immediately contact their doctor if they experience any of the following symptoms: anorexia, cough, diarrhea, fatigue, fever, nausea, chest pain, or shortness of breath.

Family Sues After Elderly Man's Death in Hurricane Harvey Evacuation

A family from Tomball, Texas, has filed a lawsuit over the death of an 82-year-old man during Hurricane Harvey. The lawsuit alleges Friendswood Healthcare Center staff were poorly prepared for the hurricane, leading to the elderly man's death. According to the complaint, the man developed sepsis and was not taken to the hospital when he was evacuated from the flooded health center.
