Investigate First Possible Vaping-Related Death in U.S. |
|
Public
health officials are investigating what is believed to be the first
vaping-related death in the country. The Illinois resident died after being
hospitalized for an unknown respiratory illness linked to vaping. Federal and
state officials are investigating the ingredients in e-cigarettes that have
caused almost 200 people in the US to be hospitalized since June. Those
affected by the illness are reportedly between the ages of 17 and 38.

Lawsuit:
Jesuit Prep Graduate Says Former President Sexually Abused Him |
|
A
graduate of Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas filed a lawsuit Monday
against the school and the Catholic Diocese of Dallas, saying he was sexually
abused by a priest and former school president on the church's â??credibly
accusedâ?? list while he was a student. The lawsuit filed in Dallas County civil
court alleges that the church, the school and the Jesuit order failed to
protect the student, now 54, allowing the abuse by the Rev. Patrick Koch to
occur and then covering it up.

Investigating 10 Suspicious Deaths at VA Hospital |
|
Authorities are
investigating a string of about 10 suspicious deaths of patients, including
one ruled a homicide, at a Veterans Affairs hospital in Clarksburg, West
Virginia out of concern they were targeted, according to three people familiar
with the probe.

Police Say Staff Neglect Caused for Post-Hurricane Nursing Home

A dozen
Florida nursing home patients who died from sweltering heat during a 2017
post-hurricane power outage were victims of neglect by four caregivers jailed
this week to face manslaughter charges, and more arrests are expected, police
said on Tuesday. The former manager and three nurses who worked at the
now-closed Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills, north of Miami, â??failed
to protect their patients and render aid when it was needed most,â?? Hollywood
Police Chief Chris Oâ??Brien told a news conference, detailing the two-year
investigation.

Carolina AG Expands Fight Against Youth Vaping |

North
Carolinaâ??s top prosecutor expanded his efforts to halt e-cigarette sales to
teens on Tuesday by suing eight more manufacturers and sellers of vaping
products. Josh Steinthe AG said heâ??s filing lawsuits against eight companies
that make or sell e-cigarettes and related products in an announcement timed
to grab attention during the first week of school.

Mount
Carmel Pays Over $13M to Settle Husel Overdose Lawsuits |
|
Over $13
million has been paid by Ohio's Mount Carmel Health System in lawsuits
surrounding Dr. William Husel, who is charged with the murder of 25 patients.
The system most recently agreed to pay $4.65 million to settle a lawsuit filed
by the family of a patient who died under Husel's care. To date, the hospital
has identified 35 patients who were given excessive doses of painkillers at
the direction of Husel. The doctor was fired from Mount Carmel in December.
