Suit Filed over Potential Carcinogens in Shampoo | | The Center for Environmental Health has filed suit against four companies who allegedly produce or sell shampoos with high levels of Cocamide DEA, a carcinogen, without attaching a warning label. Last year, the International Agency for Research on Cancer added the chemical to a list of possible carcinogens. The suit was filed on Tuesday in the Alameda County Superior Court of California. Merrill Lynch Racial Bias Suit Settled for $160 Million | | The 2005 racial bias lawsuit filed on behalf of 700 black brokers against employer Merrill Lynch has reached a settlement. The lawsuit, which passed through the United States Supreme Court, claims that Merrill Lynch placed white brokers in charge of more profitable accounts, while funneling blacks into more clerical positions. Man Loses Apartment Based on Marital Status | | A Chicago maintenance worker at a Christian housing development was fired from his job and forced to move out of his apartment because he lived with a woman to whom he was not married. The plaintiff filed suit on Tuesday, claiming the housing development discriminated against him based on his marital status. Settlement Reached in Yakama Raid Lawsuit | | A settlement has been reached in the lawsuit filed by the Yakama tribe of Yakima, Wash, after a 2011 raid of their tobacco company. According to the lawsuit, the FBI initiated a raid, taking computers and documents, without notifying the tribal leaders. The settlement states that the defendants "notify Yakama Nation police before executing warrants against tribal members on tribal land." Remote Texter Can Be Held Liable for Distracted Driver’s Crash | | In a case of first impression, a New Jersey appeals court has held that a remote texter can be held liable to third parties for injuries caused when the distracted driver has an accident. However, that is only true if the individual sending the texts from another location knew they were being viewed by the recipient as he or she was driving.
