Hunter Awarded $18.5M in Treestand Fall |
A Kentucky jury has awarded $18.5 million to a hunter who was injured when a hunting treestand he was using fell to the ground. The lawsuit was filed against Primal Vantage Co., the manufacturer of the treestand, and alleged that they failed to warn consumers about the risks of using the product. The plaintiff alleged in the lawsuit that he has suffered from paralysis and excruciating pain since the accident. A Jefferson Circuit Court jury ruled that the plaintiff was 50 percent liable for his injuries in the fall because he failed to inspect it before he and another man and child got on the stand. The plaintiff was also determined to be partially at fault because he failed to use a safety harness.

A Texas woman whose car fell seven stories from a parking garage in Austin has filed a lawsuit against the garage owner and management. The plaintiff, a 49-year-old woman, was injured in the fall that took place on July 13, the lawsuit states. Investigators believe that the woman may have accidentally hit the car's accelerator instead of the brake while trying to park. According to her lawsuit, the defendants were negligent by not upgrading the cable barrier system that failed to keep her car from going over the edge of the building. The lawsuit seeks more than $1 million in damages from GTT Parking LP, the owners of the Littlefield Garage.

An Austin pair will get $3.4 million after they were wrongfully convicted and imprisoned on allegations that they sexually abused children at their day care center during so-called satanic rituals. Dan and Fran Keller were convicted in 1992 after therapists testified that they helped three children recover memories of satanic rituals and sexual abuse at the Kellers' South Austin facility. The convictions were later overturned. Fran Keller, 67, told the Austin American Statesman that with the money they won't have to live on the brink of destitution. They have been unable to find jobs due to their ages and convictions.
