The complaint was filed in a San Jose federal court on Tuesday and contends the car that struck the man "suddenly accelerated" when a car in front of it switched lanes. The driver of the Tesla was "found to have been dozing shortly before the crash," according to the complaint. Tesla is accused of defective design, failing to warn, negligence, and wrongful death.

â?˜Motherhood Penalty' May Fuel Workplace Lawsuits
spacer image
The â??motherhood penaltyâ?? has been oft-used to describe persistent gender disparities that working mothers can encounter, as documented by a surge in discrimination lawsuits related to caregiving in recent decades. Itâ??s exacerbated during the pandemic, lawyers and professors say, and could lead to more claims of sex discrimination in hiring, firing, pay, and promotions; pregnancy bias from mothers who must choose between their safety and getting paid; and family leave law violations.
