A lawsuit alleges that an innocent man was arrested and taken prisoner on an 18-day journey from Virginia to Houston. According to the lawsuit, the 39-year-old man, who had recently moved from Houston, was arrested by Virginia police on a mistaken report that the car he was driving had been reported stolen. Following the arrest, the man was arraigned on a fugitive warrant and extradited to Houston in conditions that were allegedly unsafe and unsanitary. The complaint was filed against Brevard Extraditions, which conducts business as U.S. Prisoner Transport; Prisoner Transportation Services of America; and its parent company, Prisoner Transportation Services.

Blue Cross of TX Policyholders Will Have to Pay 100% of ER Visits if Not Life Threatening

Starting in June, when some policyholders go to the emergency room, if their ailment is later determined to not be serious enough, they could be on the hook for 100 percent of the medical costs. In a memo shared with brokers and consultants on April 18, Blue Cross said the new policy, which takes effect June 4, applies to fully insured group and retail HMO members. If they get treated at an out-of-network emergency center as a convenience, rather than for serious or life threatening issues, they’ll be required to pay the entire emergency room bill.
