The city of Los Angeles will pay $4.2 million to settle a lawsuit with two local women mistakenly shot by LAPD officers in February. A lawsuit has been filed in Mississippi against a local pawnshop over the fatal shooting of an off-duty Chicago police officer in 2010. Corpus Christi Court of Appeals: Torts

spacer image

The trial court held that the ecclesiastical abstention doctrine barred claims brought by a former associate pastor of a church. The appellant's claims do not allege acts so egregious as to except the claims from the ecclesiastical doctrine. The torts alleged do not jeopardize, in any way, public safety, peace or order. They are merely personal complaints regarding what the appellant viewed as defamatory comments by church personnel. The trial court's judgment is affirmed. Torralva v. Peloquin, Corpus Christi Court of Appeals, No. 13-12-00342-CV, 04-18-2013.
