Georgia Settles Voter Registration Lawsuit |
| The state of Georgia has agreed to settle a lawsuit with a coalition of voting rights groups who sued the state on behalf of poor citizens who were not being given the chance to register to vote. In the suit, plaintiffs claimed the state was not offering voter registration help to people in the Georgia public assistance program, a violation of the National Voters Registration Act. Boy Paralzyed by Bully Receives $4.2 Million |
| A school district in New Jersey will pay $4.2 million to a middle school student who was paralyzed from the waist down after being punched in the stomach by a bully. The punch caused a clot, keeping blood from reaching lower areas of the spine. The suit claims the bully was a known aggressor in the school and failed to prevent him from harming kids. Supermarket Chain Accused of Unfair Wage Practices |
| A lawsuit has been filed against the North Carolina-based supermarket chain Ingles Markets, Inc. over alleged improper pay practices. In the suit, a store co-manager claims he was not paid the overtime wages he was owed. The suit is seeking class-action status to recover unpaid wages and liquidated damages. Man Shot in Detroit Gas Station, Lawsuit Filed |
| A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed against a Detroit gas station attendant who allegedly shot an unarmed customer in the back during a dispute in the store. The suit also names the hospital the victim's companions brought him to, claiming security guards outside the building detained them rather than rushing the man inside for help.
