Navy Veteran Sues After E-Cigarette Explosion Tore Hole in Thigh

A former U.S. Navy veteran, from the Dallas area, is suing an e-cigarette retailer, distributor and manufacturer after he was severely burned when his e-cigarette battery exploded in his pant pocket. Matthew Bonestele's LG Chem HG2 18650 battery exploded in his right pocket on April 21, 2016. The blast caused third degree burns to most of his right leg and tore a hole in his upper right thigh. he lawsuit claims LG Chem America, Inc. defectively designed and manufactured the e-cigarette battery, which the lawsuit alleges did not have warnings alerting users to its potential danger. The e-cigarette was distributed by Lightfire Group, LLC. and sold to Bonestele by Great Vapes, LLC. -- both of which are named in the lawsuit.

Injured Sky Diver Awarded $760K in Negligence Lawsuit

U.S. District Judge Timothy D. DeGiusti last Wednesday awarded $400,000 for Makenzie Wethington's past and future physical pain and suffering and $350,000 for her mental pain and suffering. The judge also awarded $10,000 for future medical expenses. A negligence lawsuit, filed by Wethington's mother, accused the owner of Pegasus Air Sports, Robert Swainson, of failing to properly train Wethington (16 years old at the time) for the jump. The lawsuit also alleged her parachute was Ć¢??inappropriateĆ¢?? for her skill level, as well as "30 years old" and in poor condition.

Lawsuit Filed in Fatal Church Bus Crash

A wrongful death lawsuit was filed Monday in Uvalde County against Jack D. Young, who authorities said caused the March 29 crash there that killed 13 congregants of a New Braunfels church. The suit names Young, 20, and his father, Joseph B. Young and seeks $1 million in damages. Brought by Ross Allen, a son of crash victim Howard B. Allen, it accuses Jack D. Young of gross negligence for allegedly smoking marijuana, texting while driving, consuming prescription pills and failing to maintain control of the pickup he was driving when the head-on collision on U.S. 83 occurred.

Five Students in School Bus Crash File Suit

The parents of five of the 18 teens who survived a three-vehicle accident involving the school bus they were riding in have filed a lawsuit in Titus County Texas. The accident, which also resulted in two deaths, happened when an 18-wheeler owned by Rooney Trucking sideswiped a Mount Pleasant High School bus bringing students home from a track meet on March 31.
