Wash. Contractor Settles $1.1 Million Lawsuit

A contractor in Richland, Wash., will pay $1.1 million to settle a suit with the Justice Department over the fraudulent use of federal money. The lawsuit accused the company of using federal money to "lobby for new government customers for a first responder training facility." Part of the settlement will be paid to a former employee, who filed a whistleblower suit against the company in 2011.

Georgia Man Awarded $1.2M in Hiring Lawsuit

A federal judge has awarded $1.2 million to a Fulton County, Ga., man who claimed he was passed up for a job with the county because he is white. The plaintiff claimed in his suit that he lost out on a job to an African-American woman in 2007 because of the color of his skin.

Suit: Teacher Abused Autistic Students

Parents of a group of autistic kindergarten children in the San Francisco area have filed suit against a local teacher and school district over allegations of child abuse. The suit claims the teacher physically and verbally abused her students; when school officials were alerted of the behavior, they failed to report it to police, as is required by law. The lawsuit is seeking unspecified damages.

Suit Filed over Unlawful Use of Couple's Photo

A same-sex New Jersey couple has added a Colorado gun rights guru and two gun groups to a lawsuit filed over the use of their picture in political campaign attack mailers. The lawsuit claims that activist Dudley Brown was behind the mailings that attacked gay marriage, and used the couple's engagement photo of them kissing without permission. The plaintiffs say they have received hate mail since their pictures went out on the mailing.
