Jury Awards for Man Dismissed from FBI Academy

A Virginia jury last week awarded a former FBI academy trainee more than $140,000 for back pay and mental anguish in a suit against the agency. The man claimed in his suit that he was wrongly dismissed from the academy because he has a prosthetic left hand - which he lost in a training accident in 2004 - even though he is "otherwise qualified." FBI officials say it could be years before the man is reinstated in the academy due to budget cuts, but the plaintiff's lawyers are demanding he be placed back into a training program immediately.

A Florida appeals court has reduced an award of $10 million in damages in a wrongful death suit against University of Central Florida to $200,000. Ford to Lower MPG Claim, Make 'Goodwill' Payments

spacer image

Ford Motor Co. has agreed to restate the mpg estimates of its C-Max hybrid and make "goodwill" payments to owners of the vehicle after harsh criticism over inflated mpg advertisements. The fuel economy rating, the company said, comes from a test of its "automotive sibling," the Ford Fusion hybrid; however, it was determined that the Fusion's more aerodynamic design allows it to achieve a better fuel economy. Ford is still facing a class-action lawsuit over the C-Max mpg claims.
