Airport, Chemical Co Want Spill Lawsuit Dismissed

spacer image

An airport and a chemical producer want claims dismissed in a lawsuit partly targeting them over a January chemical spill. In U.S. District Court in Charleston, Yeager Airport filed a motion to dismiss claims in the wide-spanning lawsuit. Plaintiffs say the Charleston airport's now-complete runway project contributed to the spill that left 300,000 residents without clean water for days. The lawsuit says Yeager didn't safeguard against stormwater runoff, which let water flow to Freedom Industries and erode a tank's foundation. Yeager's motion says it generally can't be sued because it is a government agency.

GM May Be Ignoring Some Victims of Faulty Switches

GM launched a compensation protocol to pay back people who were seriously injured, or had lost loved ones, in crashes involving the ignition switch problem. GM tapped lawyer Kenneth Feinberg to manage the GM Compensation Protocol. At the time he said that the “only limitation [GM] really laid out, was the limitation that only certain eligible vehicles are subject to this program.” The list of eligible vehicles, though, is shorter than you might expect. Not all cars with faulty ignition switches, or key rotation problems, qualify for the Feinberg protocol.
