Calif. Woman Files Sex Abuse Suit Against Archdiocese | | A California woman has filed a lawsuit alleging that she was sexually abused by her supervisor at the Archdiocese of San Francisco. The lawsuit alleges that the plaintiff was forced to perform sexual acts with her supervisor as payment for his help in getting her the job. When the plaintiff refused to meet her supervisor in isolated places, he allegedly threatened her. The lawsuit seeks monetary damages for emotional stress, as well as repayment for lost wages and costs associated with the suit. No-Smoking Policy Lawsuit Settled | | The lawsuit filed against the New Castle Area Transit Authority in Pennsylvania has been settled for $32,500. The lawsuit was filed by a bus mechanic who pleaded for the agency to enforce its no-smoking policy because he says he suffers from high blood pressure and sinus illness which are both worsened by the smoke. The lawsuit alleged that the agency violated the Americans with Disabilities Act and several other federal and state laws when it refused to enforce its no-smoking policy. Possible $100M Settlement of NuvaRing Lawsuit | | Merck & Co. is considering a $100 million settlement of thousands of lawsuits over the safety of their NuvaRing contraceptive. The lawsuits, filed by about 200 women, allege that the maker of the contraceptive sold the product "while knowing it posed a higher risk of heart attack-inducing blood clots than competing products." The cost of the settlement would be a fraction of the $1.6 billion settlement of a similar set of lawsuits filed against the makers of Yaz and Yasmin birth-control pills. Calif. Police Taser Man's Genitalia, Lawsuit Says | | A Los Angeles man has filed a lawsuit alleging that LAPD officers held him down and tasered him after an incident concerning a littered cigarette butt. The lawsuit alleges that the plaintiff was held down by one officer while the other tasered his genitalia. According to the lawsuit, the dispute with the officers began when the officers informed the plaintiff that his father would be issued a $1,000 ticket for littering after he threw a cigarette on the ground.
