Possible $100M Settlement of NuvaRing Lawsuit
Merck & Co. is considering a $100 million settlement of thousands of lawsuits over the safety of their NuvaRing contraceptive. The lawsuits, filed by about 200 women, allege that the maker of the contraceptive sold the product "while knowing it posed a higher risk of heart attack-inducing blood clots than competing products." The cost of the settlement would be a fraction of the $1.6 billion settlement of a similar set of lawsuits filed against the makers of Yaz and Yasmin birth-control pills.
