17,000 Honda Trimmers Recalled |
| The Consumer Product Safety Commission, along with Health Canada, have announced a recall of approximately 17,000 grass trimmers distributed by American Honda Motor Co. The agency said the cutting attachments can detach, caused by the shaft cracking, posing a laceration risk to users. There have been no injuries reported in association with the recalled product. Suit: Hotel Bartender Drugged Guest, Raped Her |
| A lawsuit has been filed against a hotel in Naperville, Ill., by a female guest who alleges a bartender drugged her drink and sexually assaulted her in her room. According to the suit, the bartender spiked the woman's drink with the "date rape drug" and acquired a key to her room from the front desk. Shell Seeks Review of Alaska Spill Plan |
| Shell Oil Co. has requested a legal review of its oil-spill response plan for drilling in the Chukchi Sea, a move the company said is aimed at preventing a last-minute challenge from environmental groups. $375M Health Care Fraud Scheme Went Unnoticed for Years |
| The Texas doctor accused of “selling his signature” to process almost $375 million in false Medicare and Medicaid claims went unnoticed for half a decade by a fraud detection system that some critics say is broken. Authorities say Jacques Roy and six others indicted for health care fraud certified 11,000 Medicare beneficiaries through more than 500 home health providers over five years. Those numbers would have made Roy’s Medicare practice the busiest in the country. But an investigation into Roy and his business practices didn’t begin until about a year ago, officials said. Court: Physicians Have Duty to Patients' Families |
| The Utah Supreme Court has ruled it will allow a lawsuit filed by children claiming prescription medication caused their father to murder their mother. The ruling essential finds that physicians have a duty not only to their patients, but to their patients' family members. The lawsuit accuses a nurse practitioner and consulting physician of negligently prescribing medication that would lead to the murder.
