Texas Supreme Court OKs Three-Judge Court Rules
spacer image
The Texas Supreme Court is accepting public comments on a court rule to govern new three-judge district courts in redistricting and school finance cases. The rule will apply to both newly filed and pending cases, which means the current school finance case'if the high court were to remand it to the trial court'could be subject to a three-judge court, if the Texas office of the attorney general requested it. The rule arises from Senate Bill 455 of 2015, which allows the AG to petition the Supreme Court's chief justice to convene a three-judge court to hear school finance and redistricting cases.

A $10 million lawsuit has been filed by the parents of a boy who was killed when a bench collapsed on him at an elementary school. The 7-year-old died on January 7, 2015 when the over 100-pound bench, which was stacked against a wall, fell and hit him on the head in the school gym. The boy's parents have filed suit against the police department, school officials, borough, a school janitor and the soccer coach. The lawsuit was filed in Hackensack Superior Court and alleges the bench was not properly maintained and that students were not adequately supervised during the soccer game.

A lawsuit has been filed alleging that Old Spice deodorant is causing severe armpit rashes and burns. The lawsuit was filed against Procter & Gamble, the maker of the deodorant, and contends that the products are inflicting 'hundreds, if not thousands' of consumers with severe rashes and chemical burns. The class action lawsuit was filed by a Virginia resident earlier this month and alleges that the plaintiff suffered rashes after using the product only a few times.
