In N.F.L., Deeply Flawed Concussion Research and Ties to Big Tobacco |
An investigation by The New York Times has found that the N.F.L.'s concussion research was far more flawed than previously known. For the last 13 years, the N.F.L. has stood by the research, which, the papers stated, was based on a full accounting of all concussions diagnosed by team physicians from 1996 through 2001. But confidential data obtained by The Times shows that more than 100 diagnosed concussions were omitted from the studies ' including some severe injuries to stars like quarterbacks Steve Young and Troy Aikman. The committee then calculated the rates of concussions using the incomplete data, making them appear less frequent than they actually were. A leaky nuclear plant canal system is the subject of a soon-to-be-filed lawsuit in Florida. The lawsuit is set to be filed by two environmental groups which allege that the Turkey Point nuclear power plant has caused the contamination of groundwater. The lawsuit to be filed against Florida Power & Light alleges that the company has known about the dangers of water contamination for six years, but failed to do anything to prevent it from taking place. A formal notice of intent to sue was sent to FPL and state and federal environmental regulators last week. Jenny Staletovich and David Smiley, Miami Herald 03/22/2016 |

Dallas Student Files Suit Over Secret Recording of Racy Sorority Video |
The national Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority is facing a lawsuit by a student at Southern Methodist University who was unknowingly recorded in a racy video. The lawsuit was filed in Dallas County Court over an incident in which the plaintiff and others were recorded on video performing a ritual dance in their underwear. Although all cell phones were confiscated before the performance, a video camera was installed in the wall and recorded the performance.
