Pop Warner Officially Ends Suicide Lawsuit With Settlement |
Children's football league Pop Warner has officially settled a lawsuit which alleged that a Wisconsin man's suicide was triggered by head injuries he sustained as a child. The lawsuit was filed by the man's mother against the Pop Warner Foundation and others in the federal court for Wisconsin's western district in February 2015. The lawsuit alleged that the 25-year-old man committed suicide as a result of brain damage he suffered during the four years he played children's football. An autopsy report after the man's death showed that he suffered from a disease known as Demenitia Pugilistica, or Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy. The details of the settlement have not been released. Stephanie K. Jones, The Insurance Journal 03/21/2016 |

Jury Orders Evenflo to Pay $8M |
In what attorneys say could be the first case of its kind, a jury this week returned an $8 million verdict against Evenflo Co. Inc. for the wrongful death of a 7-month-old girl in 2010. A San Mateo County jury of six women and six men ruled Thursday that a mattress pad manufactured by Evenflo suffocated Abigail Karow after a daycare provider put her down for a nap face-down. Tiffany and Dave Karow, of San Carlos, argued in their lawsuit that their daughter, Abigail, suffocated to death on a mattress pad manufactured by the company because she couldn't breathe through the material.
