Report: High Arsenic Levels in Many Texans' Water |
Analyzing state data posted online, the Washington D.C.-based Environmental Integrity Project found that 34 rural drinking water systems serving about 51,000 Texans have exceeded the federal drinking water limit for arsenic for at least a decade ' many by a long shot. The report, titled 'Don't Drink The Water,' also found that Texas requires public water utilities to use less urgent language than some other states in the notices they send to customers when their drinking water exceeds the arsenic standard. Family Files Lawsuit in Son's Galveston Jail Death |
Jesse Jacobs' parents and lawyers announced Monday they had filed a $25 million wrongful death lawsuit against Galveston County, the county's sheriff, Henry Trochesset, and many of the jailers on duty during their son's fatal jail stay. In a 40-page lawsuit, Jacobs' family lawyers contend that Jesse Jacobs died because the medical staff refused to give Jacobs his prescribed medications, treat him for four or more seizures, ignored his medical complaints, intentionally failed to provide medical treatment to him by abruptly discontinuing his long-term high-dose (Xanax), and failed to check on him as frequently as they should have. Whistleblower's Suit Accuses Volkswagen of Deleting Data |
A former Volkwagen employee has filed a whistleblower lawsuit in Michigan, asserting that co-workers illegally deleted electronic data shortly after the U.S. government accused the automaker of cheating on emissions tests. The former employee, Daniel Donovan, who according to the lawsuit worked as an information manager in an Auburn Hills, Mich., office overseen by Volkswagen's in-house lawyer, says he was fired in December because his superiors believed that he was about to report the company to U.S. authorities for obstruction of justice. In addition to wrongful dismissal, the lawsuit filed last week in Oakland County Circuit Court in Michigan accuses Volks-wagen of violating the state's whistleblower protection law.
