Suit to be Filed over New Wisconsin Voter Law |
| A voter's group in Wisconsin has said they will file a lawsuit against a recent law passed by politicians requiring voters to show a photo ID at polls. The group claims the law violates the state's constitution, which only gives the state the ability to decline voting rights to felons and people deemed incompetent. "Getting a state ID can be difficult for low-income and elderly voters," said a spokesperson for the group. Jack Nicas , WSJ Blogs 08/23/2011 | Read Article: WSJ Blogs |
Austin Settles Sanders Police Shooting Lawsuit for $750K |
| The Austin City Council settled for $750,000 a federal wrongful death lawsuit Thursday with the family of a man fatally shot by an officer in 2009, closing a bitter chapter in one of the city's most notorious police shootings. The settlement with the family of Nathaniel Sanders II came after a 5-2 vote that officials conducted in a matter of minutes — unlike last year when the council considered and rejected the same measure after a lengthy public debate. Doctor’s Lawsuit Targets Parents of Patient Who Overdosed |
| The dramatic rise in prescription narcotics use -- and the subsequent increase in overdose deaths -- has led to a spate of lawsuits around the country targeting doctors for malpractice or running pill mills. But legal experts say the case of one family physician in Henderson, Nev., stands out. Dr. Kevin Buckwalter has turned the tables, filing a lawsuit against the parents of a young woman who died from an overdose of narcotics that he prescribed. Buckwalter's suit accuses John and Maggie DeBaun of abusing the legal process, intentionally inflicting emotional distress and interfering with his ability to do business by filing a medical malpractice case against him for the death of their daughter.
