Kaufman County is located on the east side of Dallas and is considered part of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. The county seat is Kaufman. The population was 103,350 in the 2010 census. Kaufman County takes in 806 square miles of the north Blackland Prairie and lies on the divide between the Trinity River and Sabine River drainages. It is bordered on the northwest by Rockwall County, on the west by Dallas County, on the southwest by Ellis County, on the south by Henderson County, on the east by Van Zandt County, and on the north by Hunt County. Interstate 20 runs through the north part of the county as does U.S. Highway 80 and U.S. Highway 175. The 2000 census reported that the 24,367 households had a median household income of $44,783 and the county had a per capita income of $18,827. The northwest corner of Kaufman County touches Lake Ray Hubbard and the southeast corner includes a portion of Cedar Creek Reservoir. The county’s major crops of corn, wheat, and cotton peaked in the 1920s and 1930s.

The two major travel routes from Kaufman County to Tyler are Interstate 20 and State Highway 64. From the northern part of Kaufman County proceed eastward onto Interstate 20 to the Intersection with U.S. Highway 69 in Lindale. Exit Interstate 20 and turn right onto Highway 69 and head south toward Tyler. U.S. Highway 69 intersects with Northwest Loop 323 in Tyler. Turn left on Loop 323 and go to the intersection with Highway 271. Highway 271 turns into Beckham Avenue which in turn becomes State Highway 110 South.
