Well Explosion Could Put Pressure on Texas Regulators

The Murray family allege that nearby gas drilling caused methane to leak into their water well before it exploded, severely burning the couple, their four-year-old daughter and Cody's father. Their legal case could put pressure on Texas regulators. As the Murrays continue their recovery, the family wants to hold someone accountable for the blast, sparked by a buildup of methane gas. They say blame lies with a pair of companies that drilled and operate two gas wells roughly 1,000 feet away from their water well. Those gas wells are among thousands that dot the Barnett Shale, which stretches some 5,000 square miles beneath at least 25 North Texas counties.

Lawsuit Against Boy Scouts, LDS Church Cleared by Idaho Supreme Court
spacer image
The Idaho Supreme Court has approved a lawsuit against the Boy Scouts of America and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints over alleged sexual abuse. The lawsuit was filed by men who allege they were sexually abused by scout leaders when they were children. According to the filing, the scouts and the church were aware that the children were in danger of sexual abuse, but failed to protect them. The lawsuit states that the organizations were both aware of the dangers and failed to disclose that information and assured families involved that the leader accused of the abuse was a "great guy," a "wonderful man," or a "friend to whom you can always turn for advice."

Uber Drivers' Lawsuit Granted Class Action Status

A lawsuit against Uber by a group of its drivers has been granted class action status. The lawsuit alleges that Uber drivers should provide employee benefits if it is going to classify drivers as employees. Uber Technologies Inc. requested that the lawsuit be dismissed, a request that was denied by U.S. District Judge Edward Chen in San Francisco. According to the recent ruling, the lawsuit will apply to all drivers in California who didn't waive their right to the class action arbitration.
