N.J. Transit to Face First Lawsuit Over Hoboken Crash

A victim of the recent New Jersey Transit train crash has filed a notice of intent to sue. The crash took place last week at the Hoboken Station when the train collided with the station. Reports indicate that about 100 people were injured in the crash, including the plaintiff, who was in the first seat of the second car of the train at the time of the crash.

Thousands of Deaths From Hospital Superbugs Are Going Unreported, Research Shows

Experts say hospitals can prevent the deaths through better infection control procedures, including some as simple as making sure staff wash their hands, but have little incentive to do so if the deaths are not reported.

Kansas State Agency, Contractor to Pay $100K in Boy's Beating Death Lawsuit

A Kansas state agency and a foster care contractor are to pay $100,000 in a lawsuit over the beating death of a 4-year-old boy. On Friday, the governor and a number of legislators approved the settlement for the family of the young boy who was killed in 2013. The lawsuit was filed against the Kansas Department for Children and Families and TFI Family Services, one of the stateâ??s foster care contractors, and alleged that neither did enough to prevent the death of the boy by his father. The settlement is to be paid to the mother of the boy.

First Sept. 11 Lawsuit Against Saudi Arabia Following Congressional Override

The first lawsuit has been filed against Saudi Arabia by the widow of a September 11 victim just days after the recent Congressional override of a presidential veto. Congress recently approved a bill which had been vetoed by President Obama allowing families of September 11 victims to file suit against Saudi Arabia for its involvement in the 2001 attacks. The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in Washington D.C. by the widow of a man who was killed when a plane operated by terrorists crashed into the Pentagon. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages for wrongful death and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Lawsuit Over NHL Player's Death to Be Heard in U.S. Court

A wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of NHL player Derek Boogaard, who died five years ago of an accidental overdose of alcohol and painkillers, will be heard in a U.S. court. The family filed suit against the National Hockey League (NHL) in 2013 alleging that it mishandled the player's drug addiction. The lawsuit further alleges that the NHL contributed to the brain injuries suffered by Boogaard and his addiction to prescription painkillers. A U.S. District Court judge last Thursday granted an amendment allowing the Boogaard lawsuit to move forward.
