Government Seeks Dismissal of Charleston Church Shooting Lawsuits
spacer image
The federal government is seeking the dismissal of multiple wrongful death lawsuits over the 2015 shooting at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina. An attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice has requested that the lawsuits be dismissed on the grounds that the court does not have the proper jurisdiction and that the plaintiffs have failed to outline their claims. The lawsuits were filed by nine of the Emanuel AME Church shooting victims and allege that clerical errors allowed the shooter to purchase the weapon used in the deadly shooting.
