Man Burned in Oklahoma Fire Files Lawsuit

A Texas man who was injured in an August fire near Elk City, Okla., has filed a lawsuit against Great Plains Oilfield Rental LLC. The lawsuit claims the fire started in a piece of equipment installed and serviced by the defendant, and was negligently monitored by company officials. The man suffered serious burns in the fire and is now physically impaired.

Suit Filed Against Sperm Bank

An Illinois man has filed a lawsuit against the Northwestern Memorial Hospitaland Northwestern Medical Faculty, claiming their cryopreservation tanks irreversibly damaged frozen sperm he had stored there. The man, who donated sperm because he suffered from an illness that would eventually keep him from having children, said the facility's malfunctioning tanks destroyed his sperm, meaning he will likely never father a biological child.

FDA Issues Warning to Sugar Land Stem Cell Company

The Food and Drug Administration has informed the Sugar Land company involved in Gov. Rick Perry's adult stem-cell procedure that it is illegally marketing an unlicensed drug. In a warning letter, the FDA gave Celltex Therapeutics Corp. 15 business days to submit a plan to address the agency's concerns, including correcting previously cited manufacturing problems. The letter said that failure to respond promptly could result in seizure or injunction by the FDA. "Based on (our) information, your product violates the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and the Public Health Service Act," says the letter, sent on Sept. 24 and publicly posted Tuesday.

Unsupervised Parolees Murdered Woman, Suit Says

The Michigan Department of Corrections has been hit with a lawsuit over the murder of an 80-year-old woman by two parolees. In the lawsuit, the family of the slain woman claims department officials failed to properly supervise the parolees, and records show parole agents "knew [the parolees] were suspects in new crimes but did not return them to prison." The lawsuit is seeking unspecified monetary damages.

Suit: VA Hospital Responsible for Veteran's Death

A lawsuit has been filed against the Department of Veteran Affairs over the death of a 30-year-old veteran who died after having back surgery at a VA medical center in Utah. The lawsuit claimed the man was discharged a day after surgery despite "unstable" blood oxygen levels and his own protests and was not given oxygen to take home with him. The man died in his sleep the following evening.
