Gun Shop Ordered to Pay Millions to Injured Police Officers

Jurors ordered a Wisconsin gun shop to pay nearly $6 million on Tuesday to two Milwaukee police officers who were shot and seriously wounded by a gun purchased at the store. The ruling came in a negligence lawsuit filed by the officers against Badger Guns, a shop in suburban Milwaukee that authorities have linked to hundreds of firearms found at crime scenes. The lawsuit alleges the store ignored several warning signs that the gun was being sold to a 'straw buyer,' or someone who was buying a gun for someone who couldn't legally do so.

Who Pays for Fire? Answer Will Affect Millions of Texas Renters
spacer image
The Texas Supreme Court will determine who must pay for $83,000 in damage to a San Antonio apartment that was caused by an accidental dryer fire with no clear cause. The apartment complex and its insurance company say the dryer's owner is on the hook because she signed a basic lease ' similar if not identical to contracts signed by most Texas renters ' requiring tenants to pay for damage not caused by the landlord's negligence. At issue is Provision 12 of the 11-page lease agreement ' provided by the Texas Apartment Association and used by landlords statewide ' that requires renters to pay for 'any' damage that wasn't caused by the property owner's 'negligence or fault.'

The Hobbs News-Sun reports that patients have filed lawsuits in New Mexico for procedures done in Texas. A judge ruled that New Mexico law applies, not Texas law. That decision is now being appealed to the New Mexico Supreme Court.
