Toyota Motor Corp. is recalling approximately 340,000 Prius hybrid sedans worldwide over faulty parking brakes that may allow the vehicle to roll away even when the brake is activated, the automaker announced Wednesday. A wrongful-death lawsuit has been filed by the family of a Pennsylvania man who died after allegedly being exposed to mold at UPMC Montefiore while undergoing a kidney transplant. The 56-year-old man died in July after he contracted an infection caused by mucormycosis mold. The lawsuit filed in Allegheny County Common Pleas Court this week alleges that the plaintiffs' family member died as a result of "professional negligence" by hospital staff. The complaint seeks damages for "earning capacity, medical expenses, and the physical and mental pain, suffering, inconvenience, embarrassment and loss of the pleasures of life."

$10M Award to Family of Man Who Died on Interstate 16

About $10 million has been awarded to the family of a man who died in a car crash on Interstate 16 in Georgia. A Twiggs County jury recently awarded $9.7 million to the man's family, who alleged that the poorly maintained highway road caused the man's death. The lawsuit alleged that the Georgia Department of Transportation "did not properly maintain the roadway and neglected to place any signs of warning of the nature of the roadway ahead" about water accumulating.
