Click on the headline to access the article. | Texas Tribune Daily Brief | | Judge Refuses to Dismiss "Boys Club" Lawsuit | | A federal judge has refused to dismiss a $100 million lawsuit filed by female employees of drugmaker Merck & Co. who allege the company fosters a "boys club" atmosphere and demotes women who return from maternity leave. The U.S. District Court Judge did not rule on whether or not the lawsuit could move forward as class action, but did state that the claims made by the women in the lawsuit are "plausible." The lawsuit was filed in May 2013 by five female employees of the company who allege that the company fostered the stereotype of men as "breadwinners" and that women, especially those who were pregnant, were paid less than men. Thomas Zambito, NJ.com 10/08/2014 | Read Article: NJ.com | AT&T to Pay $105M to Settle Mobile Cramming Suit | | AT&T has agreed to pay $105 million to settle a lawsuit alleging that the company illegally billed customers for charges originated by other companies. The lawsuit was filed by the Federal Trade Commission and alleged that AT&T illegally billed customers for horoscopes, ring tones and love tips, a practice known as mobile cramming. According to the FTC, $80 million of the settlement will be refunded to customers. The lawsuit against AT&T is the seventh mobile cramming suit brought by the FTC since 2013. David McLaughlin and Todd Shields, Bloomberg 10/08/2014 | Read Article: Bloomberg | Jury Finds Fresno Trucking Company Negligent | | A jury has returned a $3.5 million verdict against a Fresno trucking company after finding it negligent in the death of a driver who died inside his burning truck on Interstate 40 in New Mexico four years ago. In Fresno County Superior Court, the jury found in favor of the family of Amarjit Khunkhun, 43, who died in March 2010 near San Jon, New Mexico, just west of the Texas border. Fluid leaking from the transmission onto hot truck parts ignited a fire underneath the cab of the truck that Khunkhun had been driving, said the lead attorney for Khunkhun's family. The verdict was against the owners of the truck ' Jaswinder Gill and her husband, Avtar Gill, who operate GMG Trucking of Fresno.
