Victims
of Gun Violence in Chicago Can Proceed with Lawsuit |
|
Victims
of gun violence in Chicago will proceed with a lawsuit seeking tighter gun
regulations, following a federal judge's ruling. The lawsuit was filed last
year on behalf of children affected by shootings in their neighborhood. As
stated in the complaint, gun violence has caused "cognitive and emotional
disabilities" in children, the suit argues, and has had a "disparate impact"
of violence on minority communities. On Monday, U.S. District Court Judge Joan
Gottschall denied the state's motion to dismiss the lawsuit.
