Another Suit Filed Against NCAA by Former Athlete

Former NBA player Bill Russell has filed a lawsuit against the NCAA, claiming the agency violated antitrust laws by "selling videos using his likeness without paying him or seeking his consent." The suit claims the NCAA kept former student athletes from receiving compensation for the "commercial use" of their likeness. Experts believe Russell's suit will probably be combined with other similar lawsuits filed by former collegiate athletes.  Karen Gullo, Bloomberg  10/05/2011

The city of Chicago has agreed to a settlement of $1.25 million with a man who spent 12 years in prison for a murder he did not commit. The man was released from prison in 2005 after DNA evidence cleared him of charges stemming from the rape and murder of a local woman in 1990. The man claimed in his lawsuit that he confessed to the crime only after being "punched, kicked and choked" by police officers during his interrogation.  John Byrne, Chicago Tribune  10/04/2011
