Illinois Judge Dismisses Concussion Lawsuit |
A lawsuit filed in November 2014 by a former high school football player against the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) has been dismissed by a Cook County judge. The student's lawsuit was intended to force IHSA "to establish policies that would have required schools to have medical professionals with concussion expertise present at all football games, and on call for all football practices." The judge ruled that it was an issue for state lawmakers, not the court system and that players "accept a measure of risk" when participating in school sports. Nissan Adds 59,000 Vehicles to Fuel Leak Recall |
Possible fuel leaks in Nissan Altimas and Maximas have been discovered in crash tests, and the automaker is now expanding a recall. Almost 59,000 vehicles have been added to the existing recall which was on 5,500 2016 Maximas. Safety regulators have determined that in the event of a crash, "fuel could leak from a seal between the gas tank and the fuel sending unit and cause a fire." Recalled vehicles should be taken to a dealership where they will install a maintainer ring. Staff Report, personalinjury.com 10/28/2015 |

At Top US Hospital, Almost 50% of Surgeries Have Drug-Related Errors |
Researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital found that 124 of the 277 operations they watched in 2013-2014 included at least one medication error or drug-related incident that harmed a patient. Among the most frequently observed errors were mistakes in labeling, incorrect dosages and medications that should have been given but were not. More than one-third of the observed errors injured patients, including three life-threatening mistakes, according to the study. Two of those were caught by the operating room staff, and one was intercepted by researchers. Nobody died because of the mistakes. Lena H. Sun, The Washington Post 10/29/2015 |
