Lawsuit Says Amazon Couriers Don't Even Earn Minimum Wage |
A proposed class action lawsuit against Amazon is seeking to reclassify courier drivers for their Prime Now delivery service as employees. Currently, these drivers who make one or two hour deliveries for Amazon customers are hired as independent contractors and "often make less than minimum wage." Even though they are paid $11 per hour, the drivers are expected to pay for their own gas and insurance. The lawsuit also maintains that the service has a mandatory $5 tip for each delivery, but accuses Amazon of not passing that on to the drivers. Carolyn Said, SFGate 10/27/2015 |
